ClickWe have an unspoken rule in our home that if our daughter wants to come in our bed at night she is absolutely allowed and one night last week was no exception. Laura was awake and crying sitting in her bed in an almost completely dark bedroom. Instead of coming straight to our bed like normal she had frozen in place. Her cry was different to the normal fussy cry little ones make before going back to sleep. There was a different level of distress to it. So I got out of my bed and fetched her. Her cheeks were soaked with tears. “What’s wrong? Were you scared?” I asked. She nodded immediately. I then went on to explain, “Laura, when you wake up, feel scared and can’t move, I want you to say, ‘Mummy, come!’ And I will come straight away and get you. Do you understand?” A big smile came across her face, she nodded and we both wiped her tears away.
I repeated myself again and she seemed a lot happier.
As I lay there going back to sleep I thought about the times I had to cry out to my Heavenly Father, “Father, come!”
Come and rescue me from distress, anguish, despondency, numbness, a broken heart, confusion, frustration, sadness. The list could go on and on. I had to smile, though, because each time I have found myself in those ugly pits God has cleared away the confusion and sorrow and made a way. Sometimes those ways were immediate, others weeks and even months. But as I look back over my life I see a God, a Heavenly Father, that not only cares about deliverance, but the process of our transformation through prayer and praise. He has definitely come to my help in time of need and ended the pain and hurts in His perfect timing. Whichever part of the journey you find yourself in, can I remind you to cry, “Father come!” and not to put your confidence completely in man/woman and to have faith that He will answer in His perfect timing.
“...they called upon the Lord, and he answered them.”
Psalm 99:6b
“Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.”
Psalm 107:6
“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler (a shield) to all them that trust in him.”
2 Samuel 22:31
“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:14-16
“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
Galatians 4:6-7
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
Romans 8:28-29
“...I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Hebrews 13:5b
